ABOVE: Oil Tank 8 built at Newport workshops May 1919, photo date circa 1919. For most of its life this wagon was employed delivering transformer oil to suburban sub-stations. The photo BELOW shows the same wagon 60 years later after having been retired from service and awaiting preservation at Newport workshops.

ABOVE: (photo courtesy Brian McClure) Oil Tank 210 circa early 1950s. As a temporary measure this E wagon was eqipped with steam loco tenders, most likely to haul oil used in oil burning steam locos.  This wagon started life as E 119 in 1928. In 1949 it was shorn of its sides and ends and fitted with the two tenders shown in the photo. In 1953 it was converted back to a regular E wagon. Interstingly, the next year, 1954, it was converted into a proper tank wagon and ended up as TW 356, shown BELOW in 1958. If you look carefully at the photo above you can see two brackets on the underframe holding the stirrup step mounted below the ladder, on the photo below the two mounting brackets can clearly be seen on the underframe underneath the letters E and L.

A plan of this wagon can be seen HERE. (plan courtesy Phil Dunn)
